Full support of Turkey towards the path of Bosnia and Herzegovina to NATO


The Republic of Turkey will provide every kind of support and assist Bosnia and Herzegovina on its path to full membership in NATO, said today in Sarajevo, Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan, after meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Svenom Alkalajem.

It is important to evaluate what the BiH signed the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the EU (SAA), and expressed the hope that this year BiH obtain the status of candidate for EU membership, which will be a significant step in the process of European integration.

Babacan said that Turkey attaches importance to the preservation of territorial sovereignty, integrity and internationally recognized borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that BiH is crucial for the stability of the entire region.

- The great importance we attach to the unity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its further development, said Minister Babacan, who heads the delegation of Turkey in the two-day official visit to our country.

Ministers Babacan and Alkalaj evaluated the relations between the two countries are very good, but the opinion that the necessary improvement of economic and trade cooperation.

Volume of trade exchange between the two countries last year has crossed 600 million U.S. dollars, and the ministers are evaluated to have the space to the volume increase in the coming years.

The Head of Turkish diplomacy has arrived, and a group of Turkish businessmen and business people who will be on the concrete activities of improving cooperation in this field to talk with Bosnian businessmen.

Minister Babacan pointed out that the qualitative contribution to the development of economic relations requires the joint performance of companies and more investment. As a good example of partnership between the Turkish and Bosnian companies said the signing of an agreement between Air Bosnia and Turkish Airlines.

Minister Alkalaj added that it was agreed that certain specific things in the field of enhancing trade cooperation implemented in the meetings of joint commissions and joint committees in the first quarter of this year.

Also at the meeting of two Heads of diplomacy, it was agreed the improvement of relations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries through consultations on the political and consular level.

Minister Babacan has once again confirmed the support of Turkey's candidacy for Bosnia and Herzegovina non-permanent membership of UN Security Council for the period 2010.-2011. year.
